Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"A vegan restaurant that we frequently visit in the Bayan Lepas area, serving a Japanese fusion menu. The food is fairly standard but well seasoned, so you can almost close your eyes and pick something from the menu. If I must recommend something, go with their hot and spicy soup. The balance of heat and sourness is just right. Their mango sushi is always one of my personal picks too. The restaurant itself is quite small, so it can feel a little cramped when it gets busy and may not be the best place for large gatherings. If you are around Bayan Lepas and looking for Japanese vegan options, Plant A Seed offers quite a wide selection. P.S. Most of the dishes actually look very similar to the photos in the menu. One more thing I must highlight. Their angpao design this year was beautiful and totally fits my taste. I politely asked for an extra one and the staff were kind enough to offer another set. Overall, a reliable spot for Japanese vegan food with plenty of choices. A place we still find ourselves coming back to."
"We were looking for vegan options in Malaysia and stumbled upon PaS. The staff was accommodating and the menu explained each food in detail. The food came out fast; each dish was delicious. It was the first restaurant within Malaysia that we'd visited twice on our vacation."
"After arriving in Penang, this was the first place where we tried Malaysian vegan food — and it was absolutely excellent! The salad was so fresh, and the soup was wonderful. The staff were very patient and kind in introducing the signature dishes. We’d love to try more next time. Highly recommended!"
"Staff are efficient and friendly. Food - it could be one of the best vegan restaurant in Penang. But the eating environment is crowded and congested. Not a relaxing place to enjoy vegan"
"Awesome food, awesome service! A wide variety served in the menu, was spoilt for choices. Must order: -Kinoki fried rice -Popcorn “chicken” -Herbal Soup -Tempura Miso Ramen -Golden Wedges Food was fragrant and flavourful, you can barely taste that it’s vegetarian, staff were attentive and friendly, the manager on the day of visit (7 Aug, around 8PM) came to check in on each table once in a while, and spoke in a respectful manner to his staff. Price range was also affordable for the portion. Interesting jiggly dessert that came with edible pen for us to draw on it."
"Visited Plant a Seed twice during our stay in George Town. As non vegans, we found the food really very good. Kimchi and Ramen dishes were excellent - flavorsome an filling and reasonably priced. The restaurant is small but ideal for a quick meal."
"Good option for Vegans around Bayan Lepas area. Portions were okay and taste was decent. Family platter sushi and fruity pot could be improved. I found it pathetic when compared with the price we paid."
"The menu is extensive and you will be spoilt with choices. You can tell that they take pride in both the ingredients and presentation of their menu items. We enjoyed the Black Truffle Ramen and Fried Mushrooms for their bolder flavors. The server also offered to serve our beverage at table side, which was a nice touch. It wasn't crowded when we were there and it is nice to have a quieter dining experience as the restaurant isn't very big. You can also see wear-&-tear in the space and they should consider better maintenance to keep up with how beautifully the food is presented."
